The Northern Region Office of FSSAI is responsible for ensuring the safety of food products in the northern region of India, which includes Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, UTs of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir.
The FSSAI Northern Region Office is committed to ensuring that the food products available in the market are of high quality and safe for consumption. The office conducts regular inspections of food establishments and takes strict action against those found violating food safety norms.
The office also conducts awareness campaigns to educate people about the importance of food safety and hygiene.
Region shares longest length of international borders with adjoining countries like Pakistan, China & Nepal. The ICD ports under Northern region are a major gateway of trade.
The region is abundant with manufacturing related businesses in rice milling, Sugar & high risk food commodities like Meat, Dairy and Nutraceuticals.
Two states Punjab & Himachal Pradesh received the highest scores for Compliance in State Food Safety Index ranking released by FSSAI in year 2023.
The region is very well equipped with 70 primary food testing laboratories along with 1 National Food Laboratory.
